 WORSHIP

Sunday, October 17, Innovation, Invention, Inclusion

A Zoom worship

Please join us virtually this week as Rev. Misha and Dr. Philip share how hard times have been a catalyst for greater innovation, invention, and inclusion in our nation’s history.  Come dream with us as we consider how our current difficult times can help us to innovate, include, and invent again!

The login for Zoom is https://nwuuc.org/zoom/ or follow the service on our Facebook page. Stay tuned in afterwards for our Coffee Hour at 11 am.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Trunk or Treat
Please join us immediately after the service on October 31st from 11:00 – 12:00 for Trunk-or-Treat. What is Trunk-or-Treat? It is a socially distanced way to celebrate Halloween. All participants are invited to dress up in their favorite costume, pop open their decorated trunks, and our children and youth will select Halloween treats from the back of your trunk. Adults who would like to participate can also collect treats and those treat bags will be donated to a local children’s shelter. Please mark your calendar and join us for this spooktacular event!

Card Shower for Chloe Morgen
Please join us in supporting Chloe Morgen as she begins her journey as a college student. Our Northwest family is invited to participate in a card shower in her honor. We will shower her with UU love and support by sending her a card with a positive message and words of encouragement as she adjusts to college life. Please access her mailing address by logging into Realm or contacting our DRE via email at re@nwuuc.org.

MUSIC MINISTRY

OUR NWUUC FAMILY (CARE CORPS)

Please keep in mind those in our congregation who are ill, hospitalized or recovering, as well as those grieving a loss. Your prayers, healing thoughts, cards and emails are welcome.

This week Richard McComas had a fall that fortunately caused no broken bones, but did cause serious bruising.  He’s at Kennestone Hospital and is improving while options for physical therapy are being explored.  Please send encouraging thoughts to Donna McComas as she navigates Richard’s care in the hospital and when he returns home.

Please remember  Valerie Johnson and her family. Valerie’s father, Gary Ready, who had been receiving hospice care as a result of a fall, passed away this past week.  The family asks for your thoughts and prayers.

Karen Lawrence lost her sister Patsy Pritchard who passed away this week.  Please send Karen healing thoughts and prayers.

This beauty is on our campus: Red Spider Lily growing near the Chalice House.

If you have a joy or sorrow you would like to have shared in the UNIverse, please call or email Rev. Joan Davis at 404-275-0236 or joanarmstrongdavis@gmail.com.

 Auction Musings

Have you been checking the interesting items we have in the Auction this year? Some of my personal favorites are the meals and various other food items offered. Have you ever had Karen Edmonds’ Ranger cookies, or Melissa Niedermeyer’s vegetarian potato soup?  I have, and I am bidding on both this year.

We are in a collaborative arrangement this year with the Asheville UU congregation—they are offering to us a residence in Asheville for a weekend getaway and we are offering one in Atlanta to their congregation.  This is the description they have sent us to entice you to bid on an Ashville, NC, weekend getaway:

“Spend the weekend in beautiful Asheville as a guest of a member of the Asheville UU Congregation. Couples, friend groups, and families are welcome to bid. Multi guest venues available to match your traveling needs. All rooms are private areas in host’s home close to Asheville attractions. Your group will be matched with the appropriate host”.   There will be accommodations made for pet lovers and those who prefer no pets.

There are other great adventures to bid on to enjoy with family and friends:

1. Take the monument tour hosted by Dr. Linton and Priscilla Hopkins–Tour to see the new statue, “Lifting the Veil of Ignorance” at Booker T. Washington HS, where MLK was Valedictorian as well as other Atlanta area monuments. Enjoy lunch at the East Lake Country Club following the tour.

2.  Enjoy lunch and a tour of the hidden gem when you bid on The Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville–a real treasure. Becki Gregory will treat you to a visit there and lunch at Moores Gourmet Market.

3.  Train lovers can enjoy touring the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, GA, thanks to Allen Rider, train aficionado who is on the Museums Board of Directors.

Want to see the many great items up for grabs?  Visit the bidding website at https://nwuuc.org/fall-auction/ for all the wonderful offerings and to learn how to bid, how to offer items to donate and all the important details. Our own master auctioneer Tony Barbagallo will be entertaining us during the live zoom auction, Saturday, November 13 at 7 pm.   It will be fun!
