 WORSHIP

Sunday, June 12, 2022, “Let’s Play Church!”

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “It is a happy talent to know how to play.”

Please come play with us this Sunday!  We will ponder what it means to be in community with each other as we demonstrate how a spirit of play can help us navigate the rough days and the hard choices.  Every part of the service is specifically designed to include and encourage participants of all ages, especially our children!  Please do come and prepare to have fun and learn a little bit more about our playful faith. Come expecting inspiration in the form of slinkies and balloons and puppets!

We will be in-person in the sanctuary, as well as online in our Zoom room or follow on our Facebook page.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Rev. Misha gave a powerful sermon on mass shootings in America and showed us graphically, with more than 10 pages, of how many have occurred in just schools—never mind those in houses of worship, grocery stores, movie theaters and other places where people gather.  Here was her call to action for all of us to get involved:

Every Thursday at least until the general elections in the fall, I will be here, in Subramanian Hall, facilitating a concentrated postcard writing, and phone banking initiative to get Georgia voters out voting for love. Voting for peace. Voting for common sense.  Voting for children. Voting for LGBTQIA folks. Voting for women. Voting for Black lives. Voting for Brown lives. Voting for immigrants. Voting for true religious liberty. Voting for accountability, commons sense, and REAL CHANGE.

Thursday evenings, from 6 to 8.   We can let it evolve into sharing dinners, we can expand it to include social time afterward, we can do whatever we want, if we show up together.  Because while we are enough on our own, we are so much better together. “

Can you commit to some Thursday evenings?

At our Outgathering and Flower Communion service last Sunday we enjoyed sharing flowers many of us brought as we did our usual flower “exchange” ritual.

This year Larry Helferich, a talented gardener, flower arranger, photographer and co-team leader of the Gardens and Spaces Ministry team, donated a stunning display of flowers, leaves, pods and vines that was auctioned off after the service.  The auction was the first step in raising money to fund a defibulator for use on our premises, a device appropriate for both children and adults.

Thank you so much, Larry, for this amazing creation and for your determination to bring this life-saving equipment, and thanks also to new member Mary Kane who was the highest bidder.  A defibrillator could cost as much as $1,000, so more fundraising will take place, but any donations toward this device will be accepted at any time.  If you choose to donate outright, mark your donation as “defibulator”.

Circle Supper

There is still time to sign up for the June supper, Saturday, June 18. And while you’re at it, consider hosting one of these dinners. No cooking; the party comes to you.

Evites have been sent and we encourage you to sign up now!  Call Judy McKinley or Kat Benoy if you need to know more.

Virtual Documentary Night

The next Virtual Documentary Night will be on Sunday, June 26th at 7 pm.  This event in honor of Juneteenth is in collaboration with Princeton Students for Prison Education, Abolition, and Reform (SPEAR), a Princeton University-based student organization that educates, advocates, and agitates against the carceral state on Princeton’s campus, in New Jersey, and beyond. For this Documentary Night we will be discussing the documentary, True Justice: Bryan Stevenson’s Fight For Equality. This documentary follows Bryan Stevenson and the Equal Justice Initiative’s struggle to create greater fairness in the criminal justice system. Here is a link to where you can watch it for free. https://youtu.be/JfZPl4CFEUc
