Book Groupies will meet Tuesday, February 11th at 7pm in the Art Gallery to discuss A Mercy by Toni Morrison. We are very fortunate to have a Morrison scholar in our congregation, Dr. Veta Tucker, who will lead our discussion.
A Mercy, set in 1690’s Baltimore, has been described as a novel that will open your eyes to many societal and racial issues that we still face today yet is said to examine slavery through the lens of power, not race. A beautifully crafted book that should be read slowly and deliberately, it has also been described as a disturbing story of a mother and daughter’s relationship.
