Bonus June Documentary Night
All The Rage
Friday, June 28th, 7 pm, NWUUC Sanctuary

In June and July, we will be hosting bonus documentary nights the fourth Friday. On the 28th, we will be watching All The Rage. The film explores the work of physician Dr. John Sarno and his radical methods for treating back pain, examining the connection between emotions and health. After the film we will break out into small discussion groups. We will do multiple rounds of small group discussion, then close out the night with a whole group discussion.

This event is open to all who are open to all. The one thing we ask is that people allow others to get their full thought out and that any disagreement is voiced in a civil way.

At the end we will decide together the topic for the next month’s film. Thank you and hope to see you there!

New Cookbook available!

I have been volunteering with Embrace, a program of Friends of Refugees, In Clarkston.  We support pregnant refugees from Myanmar, Syria, Afghanistan, and Congo by teaching an eight-week Healthy Moms class series and supporting moms during prenatal care, labor, and postpartum.  Embrace has a new cookbook based on recipes and stories from refugee women in our program.  All proceeds from the book sales will directly support the Embrace program.  The cost of the cookbook is $15.  If you are interested, just let me know and I will bring cookbooks to church next Sunday.  Cookbooks can be purchased in the Bellwether Bookstore alsoThanks for helping our local Atlanta metro area refugee community!

One Green Thing returns!

How our emotions can help us beat the Climate Crisis.

Earth Ministry once more brings One Green Thing, a column Sharon Cameron wrote for several years and now has agreed to update with ideas on ways for all of us to be better stewards of our planet.

OGT has always been about bringing some positive or empowering news on the Climate Challenge.  We’ve had inventions like the long time favorite, www.SolarRoadways.com, positive advances in solar, wind, progress from cities and even understanding our emotions.  We also want anyone in the congregation to contribute if you find a positive source or new effort that can or is working, please send it to Sharon at smcameron27@gmail.com.

The Problem with ignoring people’s emotions about Climate Change.  https://www.yaleclimateconnections.org/2019/04/scientists-dont-ignore-peoples-emotions/
And a fascinating podcast on our emotions and climate change in discussion with Daniel Goleman, George Lakoff and Joshua Freedman, https://climateone.org/audio/ecological-intelligence Dated 2014, it’s more important now. (In it, George Lakoff even brings up that we should use sexy talk about the issue. Now Slutty Vegan is on the front page of Sunday’s 5/26/2019 AJC showing long lines of laughing people paying $15 to $19 apiece for burger and fries carry out in 90 some degree heat for the Vegan Impossible Burger!) Marketing works!
