9-String Theory returns to Hungry Ear February 7th with up and coming artist, Ashley Filip.
World Music. Performing music of great variety and intense virtuosity, 9 String Theory is the unique musical collaboration of Russian domra virtuoso Angelina Galashenkova-Reed and award-winning classical guitarist John Huston. The performance will include music from Argentina, Russia, Romania, Spain, France, Italy and the U.S.
Angelina Galashenkova-Reed is a prize-winning master of the Russian domra, a lute-like instrument that is studied in Russiaās top music conservatories. Ms. Galashenkova-Reed has performed around the world as a soloist with numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the prestigious Andreev Russian Folk Orchestra,Ā with whom she performedĀ at the 100th anniversary of Carnegie Hall.
John Huston has distinguished himself as one of the most exciting and expressive guitarists of his generation. Guitar International has praised him as “a formidable talent” and La Stampa has called his playing “…mesmerizing.” Mr. Huston has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera, Bent Frequency, the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, the Athens Chamber Singers, and the Morehouse and Spelman College choirs.

Largely influenced by artists such as Aretha Franklin, Alison Krauss, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin, Lauryn Hill, and Brad Paisley, Ashley Filip’s songs are full of stories of family, spirituality, and relationships. Her most recent recording is āLight Yearsā, a culmination of Filip’s years spent writing and playing gigs in venues such at Eddieās Attic, Hard Rock CafĆ©, Harvard Square and around Nashville.
