Unitarian Church of Atlanta – Meeting Minutes, Aug 25, 1907 (Calling Rev. Bowser)

Atlanta, Ga. Aug 25, 1907

A meeting of the church members was held at 11 o’clock, after Sunday School to hear the report of the Pulpit Supply Committee, 25 members being present. Mr. J.C. Peck called the meeting to order.

Letters were read by Mr. Jno. L. Moore chairman from Mr. Elliott (Archivist Note: Proper spelling is Eliot), Mr. St. John and Dr. Shippen in reference to calling Mr. A. T. Bowser of Wilmington, Del. to the pastorate of the Atlanta church.  All of three gentlemen thought Rev. Bowser was just the man for us and the committee had acted accordingly calling him to fill the pulpit.  The arrangements are for Rev. Bowser to begin his work the 2nd Sunday in October.  The salary for the fiscal year to be $2600.00.  The church to raise $500 of that amount and the A.U.A.  the balance.

Mr. Francis moved that the action of the Pulpit Supply Committee in calling Mr. Bowser be ratified, which motioned was put and carried unanimously.

Mr. Behre moved that the thanks of the church be tendered the A.U.A. for their efforts and liberality in our behalf that we all pledge ourselves to renewed zest in the work of the church.  Carried.

A motion to adjourn was then carried.
