Homecoming – Rockwell Universalist Church

Northwest members Jay Kiskel and Helen Borland joined other members from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta (UUCA) at the historic Rockwell Universalist Church in Winder, GA for their annual Homecoming service.  The church was organized in 1839.  The current building was erected in 1881.  The church has been served by Southern Universalist luminaries such as Rev. L.F.W. Andrews and Rev. D.B. Clayton.

More recently Rev. Rhett Baird, a member of UUCA, served as minister to Rockwell and other Georgia Universalist churches from 1979 to 1992.  The current minister is Rev. Jack Pride, who presided over the Homecoming service.

The church recently underwent extensive renovation and now appears inviting, warm and welcoming.

Both Jay and Helen are on the Executive Board of the Universalist Convocations organization; Jay serving as President and Helen as Secretary.   Universalists have been holding annual convocations, or meetings, since 1990 to celebrate our Universalist heritage. Northwest will be hosting Universalist Convocation in May 2012.
