Out of the Rain
Ron Hipp w/Carol Statella ~Out of the Rain~ is a folk duo noted for innovative arrangements and unusual expressive power. Ron Hipp has been known in the Atlanta area as an accomplished solo artist and Carol Statella has played and sung in various groups over the years. Their joining forces to regularly perform and record music together has created a compelling, poignant sound that is both timeless and fresh.

Ron is an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist/singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. A native of Atlanta, he’s been performing both solo and in various band combinations since about the age of 16. His rich baritone voice, consummate fingerpicking, and mesmerizing songs make his shows a memorable experience. Ron has graced many a recording project by other artists over the years as a studio musician, and has many CD cover photos to his credit.

Carol (multi-instrumentalist/singer) has played in backup orchestras for Joni Mitchell, The Moody Blues, and Brian Wilson. She’s been a music journalist, radio announcer, and clinician. In the classical realm, she’s played in the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and sang for seventeen seasons with the Atlanta Symphony Chorus/Chamber Chorus. www.outoftherainmusic.net

Cyndi Craven
Cyndi Craven has been around for a while, singing songs she’s written and other people’s, too, and playing guitars, ukuleles and a weird little thing that looks a guitar that got put in the dryer.

She’s played at the Bluebird in Nashville several times, The Carter Center Rose Garden, Moose Lodge #1455 in Macon, dorm rooms and dive bars and Amtrak club cars, and the Steak & Egg at 2am in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Clearly, she’s had plenty of exposure but she hasn’t died from it yet. She was a Kerrville Folk Festival ‘New Folk’ finalist in ‘92, coincidentally, along with her former duo partner of nine years, Tom Wolf, who didn’t even know he’d entered the competition (that was Tim Reis’s doing) but was happy enough to go to Texas and play some music anyway.

Cyndi almost had one of her songs (Train Go By) featured in a Brad Pitt movie but the other song won out last minute. She got paid $300 as an advance and didn’t have to pay it back. She’s still living on that $300 which is one reason she drives a ‘96 Honda Accord. It turned out to be a really bad Brad Pitt movie anyway (Kalifornia).

She has songs about starfish habitat and secret turtle language and one her cat wrote and one about a household safety device (that one’s a love song) and one about a guardian angel with a crooked wing (and possibly a criminal record) and one about a train from the train’s point of view. There are others. Come hear some at the Hungry Ear on October 6th! www.cyndicraven.com

Jonathan Brenner
Jonathan Brenner is an American singer-songwriter who defies easy classification. Described as “somewhere between New York and Nashville,” his music is a unique amalgam of genres, including 70s pop, country, folk, Americana, and jazz. His influences include Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Hank Williams, the Beatles, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Tom Lehrer, and Flannery O’Connor.

Jana Wolf Dobson
Jana Wolf has honed and perfected her craft of songwriting to a fine point as can be heard on her album, Sing Your Own Blues. Jana plays guitar and ukulele and is a veteran of music venues around the South. Her voice is warm and gentle, making her song delivery easy to the ear.
