John Cable and Richard Dean:
John is a veteran musician who began his career in the late 60s. After serving as lead guitarist and vocalist for Texas country rock pioneers, Colours, John became a member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. In 1976, they became the first American band in history to perform in the Soviet Union. John became the first American to lecture at the Moscow Conservatory of Music on the history of western Blues and Rock music. John has performed on The Tonight Show, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, The Midnight Special, Austin City Limits and the Grand Ole Opry. He has performed in some of the great concert venues, as well, including Wolftrap, Carnegie Hall and Red Rocks. John is currently playing and touring with John McEuen’s String Wizards and holds songwriting workshops at festivals when on tour.

Richard Dean is a critically acclaimed Colorado singer/songwriter. After leaving Austin, Tx in the early 70s for Colorado, Richard became the lead guitarist for Michael Martin Murphey. His songs have been recorded by Michael Murphey, Tom Rush, Emmylou Harris and Ray Wylie Hubbard. He and his songs have appeared in movies and television. Throughout his career, Richard has performed on David Letterman, Austin City Limits, The Midnight Special and Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert. He has also performed at major venues across the country. John and Richard met in 1970 in Gold Hill, CO at the cabin of Texas music icon, Steve Frumholz. They have performed and written together for over 40 years.

Local visual artist and Singer-Songwriter, Alexis Vear will join Bob Bakert to open the show with an ‘In-the-Round’ of all original music, sharing stories and songs from their many years of writing and performing: Alexis released her first album in 2004, receiving national airplay on NPR, as well as, international airplay. She released her second album in 2008, and in April 2018, released a new single titled, ‘My Father’. Alexis has been a finalist in several music competitions in Atlanta, including the Red Clay Open Mic Shootout and the Rockin Taco Original Song Series, and has recently received regional airplay on several radio stations. She just returned from London, Paris, and Madrid, and is excited to be bringing her visual art, and her original songs to the Hungry Ear audience!

Singer-Songwriter / Musician / Producer – Bob Bakert returns to the Hungry Ear stage with an all original song performance, including a collection of songs that won him a place in the upcoming Red Clay Open Mic shootout. Bob is the former host and producer of the Hungry Ear, and occasionally hosts the Open Jam at The Velvet Note (a local Jazz club/venue). He continues to play various venues around town, putting together some of the best musicians in the area. Bob plays everything from Jazz and American Standards – to Classic Rock – to Acoustic Folk Music, including many original tunes, crossing all genres of music. From playing in clubs and bars in the 70’s, to studying business, folk music, jazz guitar, and voice, Bob is a genuine ‘scholar’ of everything music – and a great entertainer! Welcome back, Bob!
