Northwest Represented at The Mountain’s Annual Meeting

Several Northwest members and friends attended the Annual Meeting of the Mountain Retreat and Learning Center in Highlands, NC over the Memorial Day weekend (May 27 – 29, 2016).

The Mountain, founded by Unitarian Universalists in 1979, is a non-profit year-round ecologically conscious retreat and learning center serving businesses, non-profits, schools, churches and other groups.

The Mountain also offers a wide array of summer camp programs as well as UU youth conferences for elementary school aged children up to high schoolers.

Other Mountain programs include Thanksgiving at The Mountain, Appalachian Spring and Southern UU Fall Institute (SUUFI). The Mountain provides facilities for church retreats and other organizations wishing to enjoy the peace and beauty of a mountaintop retreat center nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwest North Carolina.

The Northwest church retreat will be held on October 7 – 9, 2016.

Attending the meeting were Mani and Ruth Subramanian, Jay Kiskel and Helen Borland, Penny Raney and John Wienert, Kitty and Tom Meyers, Stephanie and Leon Fraser (and children), Nancy Wylie and Larry Kloet and Sharon Beecher.

Jay serves on The Mountain Board of Trustees; Mani recently completed a three-year term on the Board and Penny serves as a director on The Mountain’s Endowment Fund. Sharon volunteered to host a beading session as part of The Mountain’s weekend program.

At the Annual Meeting it was announced that for the second year in a row The Mountain surpassed $1 million in revenue and finished the year with a small surplus.

This great financial news, the wonderful weekend weather and marvelous inter-generational programs made this a Memorial Day weekend to be remembered.
