July 18 -    Stewardship - Privilege, Pain, and Priority
Visiting Worship Leaders:  Donna Shearer
Worship Associate:  Kitty Meyers
Founder of the nonprofit Save Georgia’s Hemlocks, Donna Shearer, will take a look at the privilege of being the most powerful creatures on earth, and at the signs of disregard, depletion, and danger for earth.  Though it is difficult  to break old habits, our very survival depends on making responsible choices regarding our planet a much higher priority .   Come learn how the plight of the hemlock is a good example of how we can be proactive with the health of the earth.

July 25 - Beyond Belief
Worship Leader:  Rev. Joan Armstrong
In this service Joan Armstrong-Davis wants to talk about Faith and Belief and the purpose of credo statements in a non-creedal faith.  One of the first questions we ask about a religion is “What do they believe?”  And, with Unitarian Universalists it’s often, “They can believe anything they want, right?”  Certainly, it matters what we believe as individuals, but when we speak about our faith tradition, perhaps there’s a better way of stating who we are.  And, when we speak of other faith traditions, perhaps there are better questions to ask.  (see a short bio of Joan on page  2)

August 1 - To Be Determined
Intergenerational
August 8 - Earthquake Response
in Haiti
Worship Leader:  Paul Burnore
Worship Associate:  Bill Cox
What has the international response been to the devastating 7.0 earthquake in Haiti on Jan 12, 2010, which killed 200,000 people, left 3 million people needing emergency assistance and reduced much of the capital Port-au-Prince to rubble?  With our UU principles in mind, what is our responsibility in helping people after such disasters?

Please join Paul Burnore in a service that examines these questions.  Paul has recently returned from working in Haiti with a non-profit relief organization called Hands On Disaster Response.  HODR has numerous projects in operation to assist Haiti's earthquake victims and collaborates with many other organizations to leverage resources.  Please visit their website at www.HODR.org  to learn more about their projects.

During the service there will be a Donate the Plate opportunity for NWUUC to help the people of Haiti. There will be a Q&A at the end of the service.

August 15 - Animal Blessing
Worship Coordinators:
Susan Burnore and   Tammy Clabby
Bring your sweet pets to the service on August 8 and let them join in a service designed to celebrate the role animals play in our lives.  We'll have a parade at the end of the service, so be ready to show off your dog, cat, bird, lizard…
A fun, intergenerational service!

August 22 -
The Zen Commandments
(They’re not written in stone.)
Worship Leader:  Edward Lawrence
Northwest's own Edward Lawrence sets his Yogi Yuyu persona aside to share the teachings of another modern master. Dean Sluyter's "Zen Commandments" is a refreshing, humorous look at Enlightenment and our oh-so-very-human attempts to achieve it.  Open your mind, relax, unwind; you never know what might happen...

August 29 -
In-Gathering
Worship Leader:
Rev. Morris Hudgins
Worship Associate:  Neil Steffin
This service marks the beginning of Interim Minister Rev Morris Hudgins’ ministry at Northwest UUC as well as the starting point for the new church year.  Don’t forget to bring a drop of water from your summer travels.
