Religious Education is a cooperative program at Northwest Unitarian Universalist Congregation – a joint venture where parents, young people, paid staff, and the congregation, as a whole, all contribute. There is no one “best way” to make a difference. As parents, you are asked to select at least one area in which you can volunteer, in lieu of a registration fee. Please look over the list below and check one or more ways you are able to contribute your time. _____Religious Education Teacher - Be part of a teaching team of 3-4 individuals! RE teachers work in pairs, using curriculum with suggested lesson plans. Training, materials and support is provided. Commitment is for 1 semester or about 6-7 Sundays in the fall (Sept-Dec) or spring (Jan-May). With Second Hour this fall you can attend the Sunday service and still share the delight of working with our children and youth. _____Religious Education Committee Member - Study and help select curriculum, develop needed religious education related policies, recruit teacher volunteers, assist with teacher training, and explore the many possibilities of educating our children and youth. _____Nursery Assistant - Be an extra pair of hands to play with our youngest members. _____Activity Time Assistant - During worship hour assist in fun activity with elementary-age children. _____Youth Advisor - Advisors are adults who support our teenagers as they grow in leadership abilities and spiritual depth. Occasional transportation to and chaperoning of overnight events is expected. Cost of training and travel expenses is covered. _____Our Whole Lives (OWL) Facilitator - Attend weekend training and then commit to co-facilitate a comprehensive sexuality education program for Upper Elementary (4th-5th grade), Junior High (7th-9th grade), or High School (10th-12th grade) youth. _____Webmaster/mistress - Help design and maintain the Religious Education portion of the Northwest website. _____Birthday Card Sender - Cards, stamps and list of children’s birthdays supplied – you address and send cards at the appropriate time. _____Snack Buyer - Four times a year, purchase healthy snacks and beverage for children. Will be reimbursed but membership at Costco or BJ’s is desired to stretch our budget. _____Party Planner - Organize two or three family events through out the year. _____Holiday Pageant Coordinator - Script and support provided for this December tradition. _____Classroom Parent - Serve as the leader and spokesperson for your child’s RE class. Contacts and organizes the other parents in the class to help with special events (ie Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Party) and community events (ie class potluck).
