Programs
The programs we share are that which defines us, molds us, and binds us. Sharing our hopes and dreams with each other. Reaching out to others in support, and for support. Weaving the tapestry of love we call community.
We hope that you will find a place to grow with us in community, love, and friendship.
Second Hour
Northwest approved a new schedule designed to maximize the value of our Sunday morning gatherings. With high gas prices, environmental concerns, and busy schedules, we're all trying to make the most of every trip and every hour. The Second Hour concept (blatantly stolen from the Emerald Coast UU Fellowship) is designed to give us all new opportunities for kids' religious education, adult classes, social justice programs, and socializing, along with time for attending the Sunday service.
This project was voted on May 31, 2009 and the congregation decided they would continue with this programming. The Learning Ministry is pleased to accept ideas for future classes.
Schedule
10:00 am - 11:00 am Worship Services
10:15 am - 11:00 am Children's Activity Time
11:00 am - 11:15 am Coffee Break
11:15 am - 12:15 pm Children's Religious Education Classes and Second Hour Programs
(Please note Second Hour will be active during the church year only. The Summer Schedule will not include Second Hour or Activity Time. Children's Religious Education Classes will be held at 10:15 after the children are sung out from the worship service. Coffee Break becomes coffee hour.)
Feb 7 - Maurice Frank will host a discussion of What UU's Believe.
Feb 14 - Donate the Plate to the First Unitarian Church of Szekelyudvarhely & a 2nd Hour presentation about the Pilgrimage to Transylvania to support European Unitarians and learn about our church's early history.
The Science of Global Warming, learn about historical scientific efforts that form the basis for current scientific thought...without getting too complex... with Bob Fletcher. This coincides with our partner, Interfaith Power and Light, and the National Preach-in on Global Warming on February 13-14.
Feb 21 - The Fellowship of Reason, one of our Chalice House renters. Martin Cowen will introduce us to the philosophy behind the Fellowship.
Feb 28 - Issues and Ideas, join Brock Stitts for a lively discussion of current topics.
Activity Time
Jennifer Torrence (along with volunteers) will be guiding our children and youth in a variety of activities during Second Hour programming. The children begin in the service and are then led out to Activity Time.
During the first hour on Sundays we will explore different types of art and craft, experience some fun activities, and be all around kids while learning to be in community.
Everyone has been enjoying Activity Time! Please join us!
