First Universalist Church Document, Oct 18, 1903 (Resolution Urging Dr. McGlauflin to Stay)

Resolutions adopted by the Congregation of the Universalist Church of Atlanta, Ga. October 18, 1903.

Whereas, it has come to our knowledge that efforts are being made to induce our beloved pastor, Dr. W.H. McGlauflin to accept a call to another field, whose large scope and responsibilities indicate the high esteem in which he is held, by those in authority throughout our denomination, and

Whereas, the proposed withdrawal of our pastor from this church which he founded and organized and for eight years successfully lead through manifold trials and difficulties to its present prominent standing in the community as one of its acknowledged factors in Christian life and usefulness would be an almost irreplaceable loss to us, therefore, be it

Resolved, that we the members and friends of this church in mass meeting assembled, earnestly request Dr. McGlauflin to decline to labor elsewhere and urge him to remain here continuing his consecrated work for the promotion of Christian truth and righteousness, and the upbuilding of our church for the still greater usefulness in the future, and further

Resolved, that we pledge ourselves to aid him with heart and hand in all his laudable efforts to increase the influence and prosperity of our church and thus individually and collectively testify to him and to the world that we appreciate the blessings which our Divine Master has vouchsafed unto our church and showing by word and deed our confidence in Dr. McGlauflin as our pastor and our esteem for his noble character and devoted Christian zeal.

Resolved, that these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of our church and that copies thereof be furnished to the City papers for publication.
