Rev. W.S. Vail (1852 – 1907) Obituary

Walter Scott Vail died at his home in Wichita, Kan., Oct 14  1907, aged fifty-five years. He was born in Cincinnnati, Ohio, and in youth removed to Illinois. He was a graduate of the Divinity School, Tufts College, 1877.  Before his graduation he rendered slight but efficient service at Spencer, Mass., in it augurating a movement which became a well established church.

He was ordained July 12, 1877, at South Berwick, Me., where he ministered four or more years; in 1882 he settled at Gardiner, Me., remaining three years ; in 1886 he was at Dover, N. H ; and in 1887 removed to St. Paul, Minn., where there was a Universalist movement which he served for several years.

In 1894 he withdrew and became a minister in the Unitarian Church at Wichita, Kan., Atlanta, Ga,, Sioux City, Iowa, and again at Wichita, Kan., in 1901, where he spent the remainder of his days. A wife and two sons survive. He is kindly remembered as a studious and aggressive man.
