People’s Climate March – Atlanta

Northwest members Dave Zenner, Ruth and Mani Subramanian, Roland DeWitt, Jay Kiskel and Helen Borland joined UUs from other metro Atlanta congregations participated in the People’s Climate March on November 29, 2015.

The People’s Climate March was a worldwide event designed to demonstrate to world leaders who are meeting at the Paris Climate Conference that there is global commitment for action to address climate change.

Marching in a climate awareness event reaffirms the mission of Northwest’s Earth Ministry Team. That ministry puts into action our 7th Unitarian Universalist Principle, “respect for the interdependent web of life.”

Northwest has a long commitment to our environment. In 2008, Northwest installed a solar array atop our sanctuary. Members of Northwest’s Earth Ministry team later addressed the Georgia Public Service Commission opposing a rule change that would limit the growth of renewable solar power in the state. Northwest was also the first UU congregation in Georgia to become an Accredited Green Sanctuary, a UU Ministry For Earth program.
