We all know the punch line to the joke about the out-of–towner asking, “How do I get to Carnegie Hall?” Practice, Practice, Practice. Ha!

But how does one become a member of Northwest Unitarian Universalist Congregation?

The first step is to attend a Northwest 101 class. On Saturday April 10, thirteen people joined members of the Northwest Community, the Minister, Board Members and other church leaders for an introductory class on Northwest and background information on Unitarian Universalism.

The agenda for the day including an ice-breaker, a video entitled “Voices of a Liberal Faith” providing commentary on UU beliefs, an historical overview of roots of Unitarianism and Universalism, as well as the roots of UUs in Atlanta and much, much more.

Also discussed was Northwest’s commitment to a religion of deeds, not creeds, as seen though the actions of our Earth and Social Justice ministries.

The three-hour class gave everyone an opportunity to ask questions, learn about Northwest, form new relationships and generally discover their own personal path to becoming a Unitarian Universalist. A little bit of practice doesn’t hurt, either.
