Benefits of Solar

Worker in the process of installing solar panels

In 2009 Northwest’s Earth Ministry installed 20 solar panels on the roof of our wooded sanctuary.   The installation was intended to realize benefits from a simple design concept. Do more to get less. Benefits continue to be accrued from that design.

18.34 Tons Not in our Atmosphere

Since the installation of our solar array, Northwest has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 18.34 tons!

Through our Earth Ministry, Northwest has made a commitment to ourselves and our planet.

The Earth Ministry works to “foster an ecological awareness that comes from a deep reverence and strong commitment to a right relationship with Earth. We support the voices of Earth that speak about a culture of life – biodiversity, communion and interdependence – in the sacred web of life. We commit ourselves to listen to the voices of Earth and to take action based on those voices.”

In October 2012 Northwest became the first UU congregation in Georgia to obtain accreditation as a Green Sanctuary.

In November 2013, Dave Zenner head of the Earth Ministry team and then congregational president Keith Kreycik gave comments before Georgia’s Public Services Commission speaking in opposition to a proposal by Georgia Power to charge a fee to solar power producers for use of the electrical grid.

Come join the Earth Ministry team and add your voice to our chorus of support for our planet.
